What It Really Takes to Launch Your Own Brand

One of the crew posted in the group last week. She’d sold the first unit of her own branded product.

A dropshipper, now a brand owner taking control of her ecom business.

I want to show you behind the scenes of what it really takes to get here because it didn’t happen overnight and her journey is certainly not over yet…

The first thing I asked her for was the numbers (what really matters).

She came back and said she’d had to do a double take when she recorded her product cost, because it was so much lower than what she normally pays her drop ship suppliers.

55% instead of 85%

So she’s keeping 45c out of every dollar instead of 15c.

And that 45c becomes 50c when her early bird promo finishes.

Same customer. Same ads. Same phone calls, same follow ups.

Let me show you the back of the napkin math ‘coz this is what’s really cool about it:

Two bars for the same two thousand dollar sale. Her own brand: $1,100 product cost and $900 gross profit. Dropshipping: $1,700 product cost and $300 gross profit

That’s an extra $600. 3x the gross profit she had before.

Here’s what it took…

It took her eight months to get here.

She started in December. Pure dropship, nothing of her own.

Then months where nothing happens that you’d ever post about:

  • Working out what product to brand.
  • What manufacturer to work with.
  • Visiting 5+ manufacturers in China.
  • Negotiation.
  • Agreements.
  • Defining the specifications.
  • Samples.
  • Quality control.

This is the tough part mentally that can feel like you’re getting nowhere.

(Unless you’ve got a crew around you that is)

Then July, production finished and went to inspection. Photos of her own product sitting in a factory… it’s starting to get real.

Then setting up her Meta and Google ad accounts correctly.

And merchandising her website to funnel people to her new incoming brand.

A week later she put her incoming branded product page in front of the group and asked everyone to rip into it.

A week or so after that she sold her first unit of her own branded product on pre order.

The container still on the water.

The full system now implemented. From here on, each sale of her own product lands her 3x the gross profit she earns dropshipping.

She’s got stock on the water and a page that’s converted once.

It’s not over yet of course. This is only part of the way through Escape Velocity.

Next is volume, getting those ads into their most optimal range for growth and profit as the data builds up, then hiring the team that runs the day to day for her.

Your map from dropshipping to a brand you own

You're doing the revenue. Your supplier keeps the profit. This is the exact three-phase system I used to flip that: keep the dropshipping, let the data pick the winners, and turn your best sellers into products you own. Ten years of hard-won lessons and the expensive traps to dodge, all in one place. I'll walk you through it.
